History
The Border Terrier is thought to have originated in the early 19th century in the Border country between England and Scotland. It is considered to be one of the older terrier breeds, which is probably closely related to the Bedlington and Dandie Dinmont Terrier.
Because of its great stamina, speed and agility the Border Terrier was used in the hunt to track down foxes. It is one of the few breeds today that can still be seen to carry out the task that it was originally bred for.
The Border Terrier as a pet
The Border Terrier is a very friendly animal. It makes a good family pet and is good with both children and other dogs. It requires plenty of regular exercise and makes a very good companion. |
