About the West Highland White Terrier

History
The West Highland White Terrier originated from the West Highlands of Scotland. It is thought to have been developed around the turn of the 20th century.

The West Highland White Terrier evolved from cross-breeding a variety of other terriers including a strain known as Poltalloch.

The dog was nicknamed 'The Westie'. It was originally bred to work on the farms to catch vermin, such as foxes and hares. It was a very popular little dog in Scotland and very successful as a hunter.
