About the Akita

History
This majestic and powerful dog originated in Japan where it was used for hunting deer, boar and bear. Today in its native country the Japanese Akita can be relied upon as a trusty police or guard dog. A symbol of good health it is held in the highest esteem as the national dog. When a child is born or a friend falls ill an Akita statue is gifted as a token of health and happiness. The Akita was first introduced into the United States in 1937 by the author, Helen Keller and is continuing to increase in popularity.
